The Minnesota-North Dakota Soil Health Partnership is working to accelerate conservation adoption by strengthening the role of crop consultants. Ted Preister, executive administrator of the Red River Basin Commission, said the effort grew out of a partnership between NDSU and the Sustainable Food Lab. “The project really started about four-and-a-half years ago,” said Preister. “They realized that when they were hosting field days and trying to get conservation into the rotation, they had many more acres represented when they had crop consultants involved.” Preister said crop consultants help producers evaluate conservation practices while managing risk.
