Attention is on the U.S. Senate as it prepares to take up a new farm bill package. However, North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Executive Director Julie Ellingson said recent federal tax policy changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill may be the cattle industry’s biggest legislative victory. “The big piece that we celebrated is the federal tax policy revisions, particularly as it relates to the estate tax and some of those business taxes.” Ellingson said those provisions are critical for helping family farms and ranches transition successfully to the next generation. “Those are so important for small businesses across North Dakota and across the United States, but particularly our farms and ranches and keeping those farms and ranches intact.” Ellingson made the comments during the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Spring Roundup in Hannaford.
