For the cattle industry, the most significant border crossing in decades has happened. On Wednesday, New World Screwworm was confirmed in a three-week-old calf 30 miles northeast of the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. A second announcement was made late Friday. The latest case was a one-month-old calf located just over five miles from the first detection. The second case is within the movement control zone. The Animal Plant Health and Inspection Service strike team is in place to provide a boots-on-the-ground response. This is the first screwworm case in the United States in 60 years.
