A new report from the Institute for Feed Education and Research highlights the U.S. livestock sector’s dependence on China for key vitamins and amino acids used in animal feed. “We aren’t concerned about the quality coming from China,” said IFEEDER Executive Director Laura Moody. “It’s the lack of diversity in the supply chain.” Moody said disruptions to supplies of critical ingredients such as lysine could significantly impact livestock production. Without lysine supplementation, she said it can take substantially longer to bring hogs to market while also reducing the amount of meat produced per animal.
