Doug Reimers, who farms at Jamestown, said local growers made excellent planting progress during the stretch of dry weather. Despite favorable planting conditions earlier this spring, Ramers said cold temperatures are delaying crop emergence. “The corn’s all germinated, but it’s not emerged yet,” said Ramers. “It’s coming up very slowly.” Ramers added that most farmers in his area secured fertilizer before prices surged earlier this year, limiting major acreage shifts.
