With USDA’s restructuring underway, a group of 24 Democratic senators is voicing concern about the impact on ag research. A letter was sent to Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden, saying the Economic Research Service and National Institute for Food and Agriculture have already faced dramatic staff losses. They claim further reductions will hurt the USDA’s ability to do research and provide timely and reliable data. The lawmakers have asked for detailed information about the reorganization plan.
