Senate Ag Committee Chairman John Boozman says the Senate faces a unique challenge in reaching the threshold needed to pass a bill, pointing to the realities of the filibuster and the need for broad support across party lines. “We’ve got a little bit of a different situation in the Senate in the sense that, as we do things because of the filibuster, we need 60 votes to get things passed. So we have the opportunity to lose some Republicans, and we have the opportunity to lose a bunch of Democrats,” said Boozman. “We’ve got to get, probably nine, ten or more to vote with us.” Boozman says while much of the framework from previous legislation remains intact, key updates are needed to reflect today’s economic conditions, especially when it comes to financing tools for farmers. “I think the most important thing that we need to do is increase the credit limits. The 2018 Farm Bill was actually based on 2012 data. The world is totally different now than it was in 2012.”
