USDA is rolling out both short-term and long-term strategies to address rising fertilizer costs. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said farmers are under growing pressure from the consolidation in the fertilizer industry and rising input costs. “American farmers need more options and more predictability going forward to keep family farms producing.” Rollins outlined several immediate steps, including extending a waiver of the Jones Act to improve fertilizer shipments, easing import restrictions, and adjusting regulatory requirements to boost domestic production. The Trump administration is also working to expand domestic fertilizer production through new investments, streamlined permitting, and financing programs. Rollins says the goal is to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and prevent future supply disruptions.
