Only 24 counties nationwide have received more than $100 million in ARC and PLC payments, and two North Dakota counties are on that list. University of Illinois ag economist Jonathan Coppes evaluated farm payments from 2014 to 2023, and the information was released on the FarmDocDaily website. During that time, farmers in North Dakota’s Cavalier County received over $169 million in ARC-PLC payments. Ward County, North Dakota farmers received nearly $101 million in farm payments. The top 25 counties ranked by total base acres enrolled in ARC and PLC include 15 from the tri-state region. North Dakota’s Cass County is the second highest on that list with more than 838,000 acres.
