Washington analyst Jim Wiesemeyer says lawmakers are making progress on the farm bill, but major hurdles remain. “I want to see if the votes are there, not only on the House floor but also in the Senate, where you need 60 votes.” Wiesemeyer added that if the bill stalls in the House, the chances of passing a full farm bill this year drop significantly, raising the likelihood of another extension. At the same time, geopolitical tensions, especially involving Iran, are complicating trade prospects with China. Wiesemeyer says mixed messaging from leadership is adding to market frustration. “Even from President Trump, who says one thing and then offsets what he says later in the day,” he said, calling the situation a “geopolitical circus” that’s wearing on traders and making it difficult to gauge what comes next for global ag trade.
