The American Sugar Alliance has filed a Section 301 complaint with the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office. According to ASA, foreign governments are unfairly subsidizing sugar imports and distorting the U.S. market. Domestic sugar prices are moving close to loan forfeiture thresholds. Without action, the sugarbeet and sugarcane group says that would trigger a wave of factory closures and widespread financial issues throughout the industry.
