Policy Solutions President Jay Truitt says the ongoing conflict in Iran and control over oil flows are reshaping global trade dynamics. “I think if you just observe the situation, regardless of what your political beliefs are, to think that the president has either through luck or his absolute intention created a dynamic that puts the United States president basically as the world’s largest oil trader in the world right now, at least from a permission and allowance standpoint,” said Truitt. “Never in history has the U.S. actually been able to do this, both to its friends and to its enemies.” That shift could complicate upcoming trade talks with China as energy access becomes a key issue alongside agriculture.
