The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is adding uncertainty to U.S.-China trade talks, with potential impacts on agricultural exports. StoneX Chief Commodities Economist Arlan Suderman says the ongoing conflict could delay negotiations and limit soybean opportunities in the near term. “I’m not that optimistic we’re going to see soybeans for the current year in the trade agreement.” However, Suderman expects a trade agreement to be finalized, with attention shifting to future commitments and alternative commodities. “I do think there’s a possibility we could see corn and maybe ethanol in there, perhaps more wheat, grain, sorghum, maybe more pork.”
