The opening of the Strait of Hormuz doesn’t solve the access and cost issues with fertilizer. Only a few vessels have crossed the strait since the ceasefire. StoneX Vice President of Fertilizer Josh Linville said it is almost late enough in the season that the reopening won’t matter. It takes approximately 30 days for a ship to leave the Middle East and arrive in the United States. It takes another two to four weeks for that fertilizer to get out in the country and reach farmers. When ships can move freely, a Stonex report said the priority will be with oil tankers while fertilizer shipments remain parked in the Persian Gulf.
