Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar is pushing for action on rising fertilizer costs. Following a visit with farmers and ag leaders in Cannon Falls, Klobuchar said a combination of tariffs, the global conflict with Iran, and supply chain challenges is driving up input prices and squeezing farm profitability. Klobuchar outlined two bipartisan bills aimed at addressing the issue, including the Fertilizer Transparency Act to improve price reporting and the Homegrown Fertilizer Act to expand domestic production and storage capacity. “At a time when farmers are facing a ‘perfect storm of ugly’ with rising fertilizer costs and low commodity prices, which are continuing to erode farmers’ profitability, we should be increasing price transparency for farmers and improving domestic fertilizer production and storage here at home,” Klobuchar said. “My bipartisan bills will help stabilize fertilizer pricing, reduce supply chain disruptions, and ensure farmers can access affordable fertilizer to keep feeding and fueling the world.”
