The University of Minnesota is requesting capital support from the state, to upgrade its St. Paul campus with a new campus center building. “The hope is that we would be able to open this sometime in 2029, and the purpose is to provide what would be the heart of the St. Paul campus with a gathering spot for students, faculty and staff,” says Vice Provost, and Dean of Graduate and Professional Education and Special Advisor to the Provost for St. Paul Campus Initiatives, Scott Lanyon. The request is for two-thirds of the necessary funding from the state, while the university would provide the other third. Lanyon points out the benefit of having researchers, students and staff together in one location. If approved Lanyon expects construction to begin this fall.
