Gevo is expanding its footprint in North Dakota, announcing plans to double ethanol production capacity at its Richardton facility. The company will add a second plant capable of producing up to 75 million gallons of low-carbon ethanol annually, while also boosting output at the existing facility to the same level. Company officials say North Dakota’s strong agriculture and energy environment, along with established carbon capture infrastructure, makes it an ideal location for growth. The site, formerly owned by Red Trail Energy, was the first ethanol plant in the U.S. to capture and store carbon from the fermentation process. Gevo says the expansion will also help lay the groundwork for future sustainable aviation fuel production.
