Reuters is describing the weekend trade talks between the United States and China as “remarkably stable.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with China’s vice premier ahead of President Trump’s trip to Beijing at the end of the month. China reportedly came out of the meeting indicating it is open to purchases of U.S. farm products beyond soybeans, including grain, beef and poultry. This past week, the Trump Administration opened Section 301 trade investigations into China and other trading partners. Chinese officials pushed back over this strategy.
