Lawmakers in Washington are developing additional financial relief for farmers as low commodity prices and high input costs continue to pressure farm profitability. North Dakota Senator John Hoeven is working with Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Senator John Boozman on a proposal that would provide additional support beyond the Farmer Bridge Assistance program currently being implemented. “With the One Big Beautiful bill, there will be substantial help coming in October because of the improvements in our PLC, but we’ve got to get them from now till that point.” Hoeven’s proposal could provide roughly $15 billion in additional assistance to help farmers manage through the current downturn. “We started with the Farm Bridge Assistance Program, which obviously we worked on through my Ag Appropriations Committee to fund, and we appreciate Secretary Rollins and USDA for their work on it, but we need to do more.” This language could be included in a broader supplemental package Congress may consider in the coming weeks.
