The Iowa Corn Growers Association is welcoming reports that the U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the fertilizer industry. The group says farmers have raised concerns for years about rising fertilizer costs while commodity prices have moved lower. The association says an investigation could help bring more transparency and competition to the fertilizer market. The Iowa Corn Growers also thanked members of Iowa’s congressional delegation for introducing the Fertilizer Research Act, legislation aimed at reviewing competition and pricing practices within the industry. Bloomberg reported this week that the Justice Department is examining whether some of the country’s largest fertilizer producers may have coordinated to raise prices for farmers.
