When the Trump Administration released a fact sheet about the U.S.-India trade agreement on Monday, it said India would eliminate or reduce tariffs on a wide range of food and agricultural products, including certain pulse crops. That information was revised Tuesday and pulses were removed from the list. India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses, including dry beans and lentils. The Indian government apparently pushed back on the elimination or reduction of tariffs on pulses to protect its domestic farmers.
