Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is emphasizing the need to expand U.S. agricultural markets and support ethanol demand as Congress considers trade and energy legislation. “Distillers dried grains are a byproduct of ethanol production. After an Iowa delegation traveled to Mexico and told the Mexicans about DDGs a few years ago, Mexico became the top export market for this value added grain product. New markets are critical for economic growth in agriculture.” On the domestic front, Grassley addressed the effort to advance year-round E15 ethanol, noting challenges with small-refinery exemptions and the legislative path forward. “Now the House could probably pass a separate bill, but I think the only way you’re going to get this through the United States Senate is part of a bigger bill. And according to (Senate Majority Leader) Thune, there’s a couple of those coming up that we can attach it to.”
