Newly elected North Dakota Farmers Union President Matt Perdue understands that he has some pretty big shoes to fill without going President Mark Watne’s retirement. Despite the current ag economic landscape in the country, Perdue says that he’s inheriting a great situation at NDFU thanks to Watne. “Watne was a great boss, a great mentor, a great friend to me, and we’re very appreciative of his leadership. Looking internally, North Dakota Farmers Union is an incredibly strong organization, with strong financial resources, a strong membership base, and I view it as my responsibility to ensure it continues to grow stronger.” Perdue says there’s plenty of work to get done, especially on the policy side. “It’s been a frustrating year in farm policy from a lot of perspectives. We did get some good things done in the reconciliation bill, but incredibly focused on getting a completed farm bill done, getting year-round E-15 done, and doing something to address the lack of competition in the markets we buy from and sell to.”New NDFU President Perdue Pledges to Build on Watne’s Legacy
