Matt Perdue, who is seeking the presidency of the North Dakota Farmers Union, is disappointed in the USDA’s decision to eliminate the prevented planting buy-up option. “One of the things that I was really concerned with in some of the logic that USDA provided is that we’re already doing all these ad hoc programs,” said Perdue. “Talk to any producer, we want consistent, stable, reliable programs that we can count on to manage risk. These ad hoc programs are not going to be the solution every year forever, so I was really disappointed to see us go away from a more stable support system.”
