After the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, the Senate voted 60 to 40 to advance an appropriations package that could finally reopen federal agencies. North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer says the bipartisan vote was a major step forward. “Getting those last five Democratic votes to get us to 60 was huge. I get the sense there are several other Democrats in the vote no, hope yes category who are just as relieved, even though they couldn’t or didn’t have to vote yes to finally get the government reopened.” The spending package includes key funding for farm programs, FSA offices, and research that will benefit producers nationwide.
