Harvest in the Devils Lake region is moving slowly due to extremely wet conditions. Rock and Roll Agronomy owner Jason Hanson says rainfall totals in parts of Ramsey County this October have exceeded three times the long-term average. “I’ll reference a data set that Daryl Ritcheson had put out where he looked at October and the percent of normal rainfall, and the number one NDAWN station in the state is Edmore in Ramsey County at 334 percent of normal, and number two is Webster in Ramsey County at 328. So that tells you pretty much all you need to know.” Much of the corn is still standing, with early yields varying based on variety and frost timing. “The range I’ve heard is from one-forty to one-eighty-five, just depending on the variety is what I’ve heard. We kind of try to shoot for one-forty, one-fifty. If we can get that, we’re fairly happy. Anything above that is a huge win. It all depended on how bad the frost got you. That was a factor as well.” Farmers are waiting for colder weather later this week to freeze fields enough for equipment to return.
