The Senate narrowly approved a measure to block President Trump’s tariffs on Brazil, voting 52 to 48 in a rare disapproval of the administration’s trade policy. Five Republicans, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, and Thom Tillis, joined Democrats in support of the resolution led by Virginia Senator Tim Kaine. The measure would end Trump’s emergency-powers tariffs on Brazilian goods, which took effect in August and raised import taxes up to 50 percent. Kaine said the tariffs are “a tax on American consumers,” citing higher prices for coffee and beef. The resolution now heads to the House, where GOP leaders are expected to block a floor vote until at least March.
