A class action lawsuit against major turkey processors has been settled. This legal action began over two years ago when Butterball, Cargill, Cooper Farms, Farbest Foods, Foster Farms, Hormel Foods, House of Raeford Farms, Jennie-O Turkey Store, Perdue, Prestage and Tyson Foods were accused of price-fixing. The claim was that a data analysis firm, Agri Stats, provided market information that would be considered competitively sensitive to limit turkey supplies and increase prices. Cargill reached a $4 million settlement; Cooper Farms and Farbest Foods each settled for $562,500. The court has not decided if anything was done illegally and the companies deny any wrongdoing.
