North Dakota Senator John Hoeven says Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democrats are to blame for the government standoff. “We put forward a clean CR and Democrats need to join with us to fund it to November 21 to keep the government open while we continue to go through what’s called regular order and do the appropriations work,” said Hoeven. “For the Democrats not to do it absolutely makes no sense. They did 13 short-term CRs during the Biden administration, 96 percent of the Democrats voted for those CRs, and now all of a sudden, they can’t do one.” Hoeven expects pressure will build on Democrats to eventually vote to reopen the government. “We’ve already picked up three Democrats, so we’re up to 55 votes. But as you know, we have to have 60, we’re going to keep working on it until we get it.”
