North Dakota has confirmed its second case of anthrax in cattle this year. The state veterinarian says the latest case was found in Stark County, an area that has seen anthrax before. Livestock producers in counties with a history of the disease are being urged to vaccinate their herds and report unusual deaths. Anthrax has been detected in nearly every region of the state and is reported almost every year. One case was found in Adams County in 2024, but the year before, there were 25 cases across Grant, Adams, and Hettinger counties. The most widespread outbreak occurred in 2005, when more than 500 animal deaths were confirmed, with total losses exceeding 1,000 head in the Red River Valley and Sheyenne River Valley.
