Mediation notices for Minnesota farmers unable to pay back their debts have nearly doubled over each of the past two years. Farm Advocate Ruth Ann Karty said the Minnesota Farm Advocates Program is available to assist tarmers. “There are about eight or ten advocates here in the state, ready to assist farmers as they wade their way through these murky waters, trying to figure out where we’re going to be at the end of this year and how they can stay on the farm next year.” Karty says the best course of action when facing mediation, is to be proactive. “Don’t wait. Start the process as early into the mediation proceedings as you can.”
