It is a dynamic time in the cattle industry. The U.S. cattle herd is at its lowest level in more than 70 years and beef demand remains solid.”We’re all scared to death that we’re overpricing our product, but it is a supply and demand market so it is what it is,” said National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Buck Wehrbein. “The President is concerned about beef prices; that is scary if you remember (former President Richard) Nixon’s price freeze. That doesn’t put you in a fetal position, but it is a little scary.” During his stop at the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Convention, Wehrbein voiced concern about the northward movement of New World Screwworm. “We’re a little disappointed in the Mexican government with what they’re doing and how they’re responding.”
