North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak hosted an agriculture roundtable meeting in Hillsboro. Due to the poor farm economy, Fedorchak said emergency payments to farmers are being considered. “They’d cover the gap for this year when you’ve got virtually no export opportunities right now for the soybean producers in particular, with the lack of China purchases,” said Fedorchak. “We are urging USDA to get moving on that and do so within the next two to four weeks so that our producers have some certainty in terms of having some cash to cover their expenses that are coming due for this crop year.” Three issues got the majority of the attention at the roundtable event: high input costs, trade, and workforce issues.
