Mexico is confirming a new case of New World Screwworm less than 70 miles south of the U.S. border. This is the northernmost discovery in this outbreak and is located near a major highway, which is considered to be one of the most heavily trafficked commercial routes in the world. The previous northernmost detection was 370 miles further south. The border remains closed to cattle from Mexico. In a statement, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said protecting the U.S. from New World Screwworm is “non-negotiable and a top priority for the Trump Administration.”
