Pioneer Field Agronomist Larry Lunder says the southwest region of North Dakota took the brunt of a recent freeze. “Basically, we had a pretty good freeze in the west, especially the southwest. You get out to the Dickinson area, south of there, it was pretty extensive.” The canola harvest is the current focus. Lunder says canola yields have been surprisingly strong in some areas despite early challenges. “Canola has varied a little depending on the location; we had some areas where it was a little drier in June and that hurt them a little bit. Some of our larger canola areas to the southwest had some really nice mid-2,000 (pound per acre) yields. The early crops, at least so far, have done pretty well when it comes to yields.”.
