Sugarbeet pre-pile harvest is underway in the southern Red River Valley. Wyndmere, North Dakota farmer Carson Klosterman says beets have plenty of size after a wet growing season. “Yep. So we lifted sugar beets last week for MinnDak’s pre-pile. The beets are looking good just from all the amount of rain. They never seem to quit growing. Putting size on, we’d like it to dry up so then they’ll just put sugar on instead, but we’ll see how September plays out.” Klosterman says other crops are also maturing quickly, with some disease pressure showing up in soybeans. “You can see some disease setting in there with the wet weather we’ve had. Be interesting to see how fungicide paid off this year. If there was a year to make it work, this would be the year.”
