Small grain harvest is complete in the Kulm, North Dakota area. Bart Schott says barley quality was better than expected. “We expected some problems with making malting barley because we had some fog and some rain,” explained Schott. “Once we got the harvest off and got the samples in, it’s all made malting and the yield has been pretty close to the highest that we’ve ever had.” Grain storage has also been a focus this year. “We bagged a little bit last year, worked out just fine so we bought a bagger ourselves instead of borrowing one from the neighbor.”
