A day after avian influenza was confirmed in South Dakota, the North Dakota Department of Agriculture is reporting a similar case. A commercial turkey flock in North Dakota’s Dickey County has been depopulated. Before these confirmations in South Dakota and North Dakota, highly pathogenic avian influenza has not been found in a U.S. commercial poultry flock since early July. As birds begin the fall migration, these reports are not a surprise.
