In the Hope, North Dakota area, this year’s harvest is overshadowed by wind damage. “We ended up losing about 90 percent of our crop from that June 20 storm,” said Josh Ihry. “We had about 1,400 acres of dry bean seeded, and we’re going to only take 80 (acres) to harvest.” Even surviving crops didn’t come through unscathed. “The corn has some hail damage, and it’s going to need time, same with the soybeans.” Ihry said many crop insurance losses have been settled because they were so damaged that it wasn’t going to be worth taking to harvest.
