President Donald Trump has fired Robert Primus from the Surface Transportation Board. Primus served as the STB’s chair from June of 2024 until this past January. Primus, a Democrat, was the only member to oppose the merger of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railroads in 2021. Another major rail merger with the Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern is pending. The White House said Primus did not align with the President’s America First agenda. Primus disagreed and said he plans to challenge the termination.
