It’s been a challenging year in the far southern Red River Valley due to excess rains, but where there aren’t drown-outs, corn and soybeans look great. “We had a lot of water this year,” said Tanner Thompson, Rush River Seed, Comstock, Minnesota. “We’re sitting at just over 20 inches of rain so there will probably be some holes in places.” The moisture has resulted in additional disease issues, particularly in soybeans. Sudden Death Syndrome and Brown Stem Rot are evident. Corn rootworm issues were seen east of the Comstock/Sabin area.Thompson likes what he is seeing in the extended forecast and looks forward to a good harvest season. Watch the interview.
