A bacterium called Salmonella Dublin can cause severe illness and even death in cattle. A study from Penn State University found it can also cause serious blood infections in people and is highly resistant to antibiotics. This strain is genetically similar for cattle and people, making it easier to spread. Salmonella Dublin can spread to humans through direct contact with infected cows or by consuming contaminated beef or milk.
