There’s a new twist in the continuing saga of New World Screwworm. An individual who traveled to the United States from Guatemala is being treated for the infection. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the human case in Maryland. Based on reports from state animal health officials, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association CEO Colin Woodall does not see any elevated risk to U.S. livestock at this time. Woodall also praised the CDC, USDA, state departments of health and state animal health officials for their timely response.
