Heavy rains have become the norm in northeastern South Dakota. Dairyland Seeds District Sales Manager Keith Rekow said the ground cannot take any more moisture. “For this time in August, the crop water usage is really getting maxed out already so the soils are fully saturated.” Rekow says the flooding is severe enough that a significant portion of the crops won’t even make it to harvest. According to Rekow, parts of Brown and Day Counties have received as much as nine inches of rain in the past ten days.
