The State of North Dakota is asking the courts to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the North Dakota Beef Commission appointment process. Candidates are nominated for the beef checkoff board by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association, North Dakota Livestock Marketing Association and others. The governor makes his appointment from those candidates. A group called the Ranchers’ Rights Initiative filed the lawsuit, claiming independent ranchers are not represented on the NDBC.
