Harvest in south-central North Dakota is moving slowly as frequent showers keep farmers out of the field. Solen farmer Kenny Schmidt says crop conditions look strong, but wet weather is making it difficult to finish. “We’re struggling with getting a string of combine days put together. It’s been a while since you’ve been able to say that in this part of the country, that you could turn the faucet off. The crops look good.” Wheat harvest is only about halfway complete, with muddy fields and elevated grain moisture slowing progress. “Without drying capacity, I don’t know that you’d have combined anything yet, because the wheat’s been coming off 14 to 15 percent moisture.”
