Black Gold Farms founder Gregg Halverson says the potato crop is generally ahead of schedule despite some heavy rain. “There are times we’ve had a little too much rain here and there, but in general, I think that it looks pretty good.” Halverson adds that timely rainfall has reduced the need to use the pivots. “We haven’t had to irrigate as much as normal, which is good. We can save a few dollars. We seem to get a little shot every four or five days, and we’ll take that anytime.”
