The weather has taken this year’s sugarbeet crop on a bit of a rollercoaster ride. “The springtime, we started out really good and then it got kind of cold and wet, and then we got a few days of 100-degree heat, and then cool for a while,” said Harrison Weber, executive director, Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association. “We’ve thrown everything we can at this crop as the year has progressed.” Pre-pile begins this week. “Each and every day from basically August 12th all the way through September and into the main harvest, we’re going to be lifting beets somewhere in the (Red River) Valley.”
