On his second day on the job, USDA Undersecretary of Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Luke Lindberg was on the Farmfest stage. Lindberg said agriculture will be part of every trade agreement secured by the Trump Administration. The plan is to bring farm groups into this conversation early in the process. “We’re going to be announcing a series of roundtable meetings with collaborator groups to get them to come in and advise us on what it is we need to be focused on,” said Lindberg. “This is very much going to be a business-driven, farmer-driven process.” When more market access is negotiated, Lindberg wants farmers on the ground in these countries. “If these countries start to backslide and I don’t think they will, but there is a history of countries not living up to the terms of trade agreements, I would love to know that early on so we can elevate that to our friends in the White House to make sure people live up to those agreements as soon as possible.” Lindberg is a South Dakota native.
