The Minnesota Farmers Union is leading an effort to help small meat processors with workforce issues. “Those small meat processors serve small to medium-sized family farms with custom processing,” said Paul Sobocinski, who is part of the MFU Bottleneck Project. “New farmers do a lot of direct marketing and we’re looking at how to help that connection.” This project also includes new meat cutting and butchery programs at Ridgewater College and Central Lakes College. “With these programs, free tuition is being offered through a Minnesota Department of Agriculture grant that the Legislature initiated a couple of years ago.” Learn more details in this Farmfest interview.
